Matt became co-owner of the Springfield Running Center in 2002. He previously worked at the Springfield Running Center and Body-N-Sole Sports in Champaign.
Matt competed in cross country and track at Lanphier High School. He was a two-time state qualifier in track. Upon graduating from Lanphier, Matt went on to run track at EIU. Matt graduated with a degree in Physical Education and later obtained a Masters degree from Emporia State University in Physical Education.
Matt has completed two half marathons and has competed in several local 5ks.
Matt has one year of head coaching experience in track and cross country and three years experience as an assistant coach at the high school level. As assistant coach Matt’s team was lucky enough to win a state championship in the 1A Illinois Girl’s State Track Meet.
Matt has served on the Springfield Road Runners Board. He has been a member of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce board. Matt is currently Co-Director of the Scholastic Challenge and helps with the Girls on the Run 5K.
Matt enjoys being a local business owner and helping in the community any way he can.
Tracy has been with the Springfield Running Center since 2010 and became a co-owner in 2014.
She ran track and cross country in junior high and high school in Lebanon, MO. Tracy and her teammates still hold the school record for Lebanon High school for the 3200 M. Relay from 1988. She concentrated on the 400 and 800 meter dash in high school.
Tracy has run nine marathons, including the Boston Marathon. Her PR is 3:25:35 in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon in 2016. She has run dozens of half marathons in her lifetime, with her PR at 1:32:41 in the Indy Mini Marathon. She also enjoys competing in local 5k and 10k races. In 2011, Tracy was named the SRRC overall Women Runner of the Year.

Tracy brings eleven years of coaching experience with her including Run at the Track, Glenwood Middle School Track and Cross Country, and Glenwood High School Cross Country. She coached an individual 2A state champion in cross country as well as several IESA 2A girls’ team state champions. In 2009, she coached the boy’s 2A and girl’s 2A team champions for IESA state meet.
Tracy has served on the board of the Springfield Road Runners Club. She also served as the coordinator for Abe’s Army in 2016.
Tracy loves running! She has found a way to talk about, participate in, and coach others in a sport and hobby that brings her joy; and this has become her career.
Susan joined the Springfield Running Center Staff in January 2015.
Susan started her running career at an early age competing in AAU track meets in the Chicago Area. She competed on the boy’s cross country team at Rolling Meadows High School, until her Senior year when a girl’s team was developed when Title IX was implemented. She ran in the Illinois Girls State Meet as a Senior in the 800 meter run.
Upon graduating from Rolling Meadows High School Susan continued her running career at Eastern Illinois University. She competed on EIU’s inaugural women’s cross country team. The highlight of her collegiate career was competing in the NCAA Track Championships clocking a 2:14 in the 800 meter run at UCLA her Junior year.
Susan has participated in many local races and completed the Chicago Marathon in 1995.
Susan has coached track, cross country, and golf at Riverton Middle and High Schools.
At age Fifty, Susan began competing in track through the Senior Olympics. She returned to national competition in Louisville, KY in the 400 meter dash and in 2007 placed sixth in the nation in that event. This past summer Susan has again qualified for the national meet.
In 2008, Susan was honored at the EIU Pioneers in Women’s Athletics ceremony.
Susan has led Abe’s Army and SHG speed workouts for many years and remains active with the Springfield Road Runners Club and various training groups throughout the year.
Jeff joined the Springfield Running Center staff in February 2015. Jeff was a track and cross country runner for Decatur Eisenhower High School. Jeff spent his college career in the Southwest Conference at Rice University in Houston, TX.
Recently, Jeff has been setting personal records in area road races, and is a constant medal contender in the men’s master division. In November 2016, Jeff ran his first marathon at age 53, with a time of 2:56:05.
Jeff enjoys helping customers select the proper shoes for running, walking, and everyday comfort. He is always willing to share his knowledge about running and fitness.
Steve joined the Springfield Running Center team in 2010. Steve is the head of the stores team sales division.
Steve graduated from Southeast high school where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. After completing his high school athletic career he played baseball at Lincoln Land Community College and William Woods University. Steve was a third team All American selection in baseball at Lincoln Land Community College.
Steve has coached baseball at Lanphier High School and continues to be involved in local slow pitch softball leagues in the local area.
Jim began working at the Springfield Running Center in 2009 after a successful teaching and coaching career. Jim has coached all levels in basketball, baseball, and track.
Jim was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. His teams have won numerous tournament championships. During his basketball coaching career, he won 65% of his games and coached four all-state players. In track, he coached numerous athletes to state, with five athletes placing fifth or higher at the state meet.
In 2009, Jim was selected by the State Journal Register as Five who make a difference.
Machele has been with the Springfield Running Center since 2004. She is an avid runner that enjoys competing at different distances. Machele has completed eight marathons and numerous half-marathons, 10k’s, and 5k’s. Machele did not start her running career until she turned 41 years of age.
Machele was a team leader for Abe’s Army in 2015 and 2016.
Machele enjoys helping runners and walkers of all abilities meet their goals.
